Here are 10 Tips for Growing Your Business Using Digital Products

Have you ever thought about creating digital products to expand and grow your coaching business?
They don't have to be tangible items, but simply pieces of information sold using a download link or an online interface. These products can take many different forms: ebooks, digital photography services, online tools and applications, WordPress plugins or themes or even just general advice that you sell as a one-off payment.
Today we're sharing at ten ways to grow your business with these kind of products. We'll also cover some points that will help you decide whether selling digital products is right for you in the first place…
1. Digital products make it easy to scale up quickly.
Because they are not tied down by manufacturing costs and distribution overheads, digital products make it very easy to scale up your business quickly. If you're selling an ebook on Amazon for $10 and you sell 100 of them in a month, that's $1,000 coming in the door. But if you get 10 times more traffic to your site or start selling on another platform where there isn't any competition, then your income could increase tenfold.
The ease with which you can scale up is one of the big reasons why so many successful online businesses are built around digital products. They allow you to focus on honing your marketing efforts while still enjoying high levels of profitability.
2. You can promote multiple items at once.
Selling your time for money cannot bring in money 24 hours a day 7 days a week – somebody has to be awake and providing support at those hours. But if you sell digital items, then you can drastically cut down the amount of time spent on customer support and marketing because the bulk of your income will come from just one product! Of course, we know this isn't possible every single month…but it does show how powerful selling digital products at once can be.
3. Your customers do most of the marketing for you.
When you sell a physical product, your customer is going to have a one-time need for it. After they've bought that particular laptop or dining room table for their own house, they're unlikely to come back and buy the same thing again in the future.
But when you sell a digital product, your customers can use it over and over again. If you're selling an ebook with information on how to start a business from home then people who purchase it may do so because they need to know this information right now. But once they've cleared up the reason why they bought the ebook in the first place, there will be plenty of other things that they need to know about later on. And your product is ready and waiting for them whenever their next need arises.
4. You can offer multiple tiers of products for different budgets.
So far we've discussed selling one item at a time, but digital products also work well when you sell several items as part of a set or 'package'. You can then sell these different packages at certain price points according to how much people are willing to spend rather than making all of your customers pay top dollar for an ebook that's worth $30-$50.
For example, here's a website that has an ebook on marketing as the front and center product:
If you want to buy this book, it will set you back $27. But there is another title available for just $9 – “How To Make Money Using Twitter” – which provides valuable information on how to use social media sites to promote your business or website. You can then sell more expensive packages with even more material, but those who are short of cash can still get something out of their purchase right away without having to pay top dollar.
5. Digital products provide fast delivery, making them great for impulse buys
Seeing as digital products only require a few clicks from the customer's end to be delivered immediately, you can quickly sell them in big batches rather than waiting for people to order them one at a time.
If you're selling an ebook that's the right price then the customer will be able to download it straight away and they can start reading it within minutes. This means that your customers don't have too much time to think about whether they want the product or not; they need to act on their impulses before someone else snaps up the deal! For this reason, digital products are great when you run flash sales or any other type of promotion with limited availability.
6. You can automate most of your marketing efforts
Selling physical products takes up a lot of time because you have to get out there into the marketplace and find buyers one by one. But with digital products, you don't need to market them yourself: your customers can do it for you!
When someone buys a product from your website then they become part of your 'customer list'. Any time that you launch a new promotion or email campaign then you can just send out an email to all of these people and ask them to spread the word about what you're offering. The more effective this process is, the more people will talk about your digital products – and the faster people will start buying them!
7. You'll have less returns than if you sold physical goods.
There's nothing worse than seeing a customer return something after they've already taken it home and used it - especially when the product costs several hundred dollars!
But because digital products don't require any physical storage or shipping, customers aren't likely to go through the hassle of returning them. And if they do decide that they're not for them after all then at least you won't have to pay for postage and packaging costs. You might even be able to recycle your digital content by offering it as a download on another website and therefore increase the value of those assets without having to hire additional staff members.
8. Digital products allow you to sell through affiliate networks.
As we've already mentioned, people who buy your digital products can refer their friends and family to your website in order to make some commission money from the sale (known as an 'affiliate program'). When combined with an affiliate network, this can produce an endless stream of customers who are willing to spread the word about your products.
Another great thing about affiliate networks is that you don't need to do any marketing yourself in order to get commissions; simply join the network and provide them with the link where they can buy your product (for example, on your website) and then sit back while they send people to your site every day. When it comes time for you to get paid, then all of the hard work has already been done by someone else!
9. Digital products are great for making passive income.
As we've seen above, digital products allow you to automate some types of marketing so that you don't have to spend extra time telling people about your products. This means that the amount of time that you spend actively working on your business can be significantly reduced, making it easier to run a passive income model like affiliate marketing.
Because automated systems take care of many parts of the sales process for you, they prevent much of the 'fatigue' that comes from having to do things over and over again. The more automation and efficiency you have in your business model, the higher the percentage of revenue you'll get to keep as profit!
10. Digital products are an upgrade from physical goods in many cases.
We don't want to put anyone off selling physical products because they still have their own unique advantages: there's no such thing as a bad product type if it suits your customer demographic and budget.
But if you're looking to increase your revenue, run your business more efficiently and grow profits as much as possible, then we recommend starting with digital products because they can be distributed globally and give you access to both physical and digital markets - the best of both worlds!

Selling physical goods takes up a lot of time, but there are other benefits to selling digital goods too: for example, they can be purchased from anywhere around the world, making them a market for everyone – not just people in your country.
You also don't need to spend money on packaging and postage, so it's easier to invest that extra cash in marketing campaigns like pay-per-click to make more sales.
